Internet poker is the familiar game of poker, when played on the internet.
In the early days, the net was flooded with sites that enable playing for real money, but the spreading of the phenomenon has triggered a discussion of its legality, causing many sites to shut down until a final decision is made. In the end of 2005, the legality of online gambling has been regulated, and since then many more sites has come on line, which enable gambling in different forms and especially poker.
Today,
online poker games are widespread, but you might be surprised to hear that different clubs have been established which are opposed to this trend.
These are actually poker clubs and they are very common, especially in England. The members consider
online poker to be a fake and a bad imitation of the original.
The club’s argument against online poker is that the internet version ruins the essence and beauty of the real game – they say that what makes poker special is the fact that success is based on ones ability to read his opponents, whereby “reading” refers to observing facial expressions, body language, and the small talk that takes place during the game. Some of the reading is based on the actual moves made by the opponent but in order to make the best assessment, one must be sitting with them at the same table and closely observe the smallest details, from hand gestures to gazes and speech.
Online poker doesn’t enable the players to really observe their opponents. Much of it is lost when playing online.
It should be said in defense of online poker that its more accessible and convenient then a gathering of friends playing together face to face, and as far as profitability, it is as profitable, it not more, when compare to standard poker. The reason is that when playing online, you can play against a more extended group of people from different places, and there is
online poker tournament in which you can win very significant amounts.
Judging by the state of online poker, it can be ascertained that most people are willing to lose some of the game’s value because it is being compensated for by increased accessibility and diversity.
